Ann Barber, age 79, passed away on December 2, 2015 at the Vidant Inpatient Hospice House in Greenville, NC.

Miss Barber was born in Edgecombe County on February 16, 1936, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Berta Parker Barber. Sally loved the Lord, she loved people, especially her family which has gotten very small in time by death. Sally loved animals, especially her cats, and she loved good music. She was truly human, afflicted often with “foot in mouth” disease, but ready to admit her mistakes and frailties and believed in immediate apologies.

Sally’s real dream was to become a Home Economics teacher or a Home Economist, but that did not come to be. She acquired some bookkeeping skills and used these in several jobs. Her first job was at a country store. She could cut a sliver of cheese for the old guys to eat with a cracker and pickled pig feet or if they chose to take some home, she could cut a pound off one of those big cheese rings right on the 16th ounce. She sold a lot of snuff and chewing tobacco too. This was before the days of minimum wage and workers permits. The real jobs were with a Department Store, Certified Public Accountant, Fast Food Franchise, and even, finally retired from this Funeral Home. After retirement, she worked part time with an investment company. Each job was an education of a different kind, and she made many treasured friends along the way.

She enjoyed her duplex home, some of the domestic chores and especially enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard until health issues eliminated all but the flower pots. She enjoyed having her good friend, Anne Hill, next door. She would tell you at any time what a wonderful friend Anne was, the many things she taught Sally and the Christian example she was for her. Sally was good to her too, especially caring for Anne after dementia robbed her of her talents and health.

A good God, good family and good friends were Sally’s treasures, and in her words, “Enough and maybe too much said”. You will be truly missed Sally.

Besides her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth P. Barber, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her three nieces, Donna Barber of Lawrenceville, GA, Linda B. Creech and husband, Will of Prospect, KY, and Kay B. Evans and friend Jim Robertson of Chocowinity, NC; her sister in law, Kate S. Barber of Woodland, NC; her good friend, John Rawls of Ahoskie, NC; and her beloved cats, Punkin and Dude.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, on Friday, December 4, 2015, from 7:00 until 8:30 pm.

A celebration of life service will be held on, Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 11:00 am, at the Garrett Sykes Funeral Service Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. Anita Thompson, and Rev. Willie McLawhorn, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
