NCHS fight nets six arrests

CONWAY – A physical altercation between students at Northampton County High School on Tuesday ended in six arrests.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Captain Mitch Deloatch said the students were charged with charged with simple affray and disorderly conduct. Each was given a $500 secured bond and an Oct. 20 court date.

Those charged were Zavonte Williams, 19, of Rich Square, JaQuan Miles, 16, of Garysburg, Stefone Ashe, 16, of Garysburg, Michael Jones, 17, of Rich Square, Anthony Lee, 17, of Seaboard, and Marshae Moody, 17, of Seaboard.

Deloatch said the Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and more charges could follow. He added that only minor injury was reported in the fight.

In a statement, Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith said, “Students need to listen and comply with instructions of the school administrators, teachers and any other school personnel in incidents such as this. It will help defuse the situation and possibly prevent injuries, arrest and suspensions.”

Sheriff Smith commended members of the Sheriff’s Office, Chief Billy Duke of the Conway Police Department, and the members of the Conway and Northampton EMS for their timely response to the school.
