MURFREESBORO – The official numbers are in and Chowan University’s Fall 2015 enrollment of 1,532 is the largest in school history since returning to four-year status in 1992. This growth represents an increase of 3.2 percent over the previous record of 1,484 in the fall of 2014.

“It is the eighth consecutive year of undergraduate student growth at Chowan,” stated Provost Dr. Danny Moore. “Undergraduate enrollment has climbed to 1,522, surpassing last year’s enrollment of 1,478, a 2.9 percent increase.”

The enrollment totals were bolstered by new students entering Chowan. Freshmen and transfer students accounted for 655 of the total enrollment, a 5.3 percent increase.

“We are thankful that so many families made the decision to join our CU family in 2015,” commented Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Randy Harrell. “Chowan is in a unique position within our market due to its new and improved facilities, our excellent faculty and staff, its vibrant athletic programs and her commitment to assisting students in finding their life’s call.

“This year’s record numbers are the result of the diligent work of many members of the Chowan University community,” added Harrell. “Faculty and staff who worked to make CU Visit Days, and SOAR (Student Orientation and Advising) Days, as well as the many individual family visits, all share in the credit for the Fall’s enrollment. I would like to commend each member of the Admissions team for their tireless efforts in admitting this record class of new students to the University.”

Under the leadership of President M. Christopher White, enrollment has grown 96.7 percent since 2003. The highest enrollment in school history remains 1,545 in 1971, with today’s current enrollment close on its heels and looking to possibly pass it next year.
