Dorothy Baker

KELFORD – Miss Dorothy Baker, age 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side.

A native of Northampton County, she was born on September 4, 1922 to the late Roy Neiceman and Mary Lucy Shoulars Baker in Rich Square, NC. Miss Baker was one or fourteen children and she devoted her life to the family farm in Kelford, NC. She was a very tender hearted person who put children at the top of her list, always connecting with them with her loving smile.

Miss Baker was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church, walking daily with her Lord and Savior, exemplifying a Godly example for those around her, a true angel. She was a hard worker on the farm and enjoyed to crotchet. Miss Baker loved her family and was a wonderful sister to all her siblings. She will forever be remembered for her love she shared with all those that knew her.

Along with her parents, Miss Baker was preceded in death by seven of her thirteen siblings: sisters, Alice Baker, Beulah Baker White, Clara Baker Showalter, and Helen Baker Robbins, and brothers, Frank, Edward, and  Sam Baker.

Miss Baker is survived by four sisters, Lake Baker, Frances McCarthy, Faye Fulton and her husband Arthur of Kelford, and Winford Williford and her husband Kenneth of Vale, NC; two brothers, Jerry Baker and his wife Pat of Kelford, and Robert Earl Baker of Cobbs Creek, VA; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Showalter of South Carolina and Carlton Robbins of Tennessee, and thirty-five nieces and nephews, Shirley Harden, Virgia Bordeaux, Kate Wolfe, Richard White, Rebecca Himelright, Linda Megill, Ethel White Mizelle, Judy White Briggs, Gary Showalter, Beverly Showalter, Cathleen and Steve Baker, Betty Trangalli, Debbie Baker, Dan and JoAnne McCarthy, Patricia Caldwell, Roy McCarthy, Joyce Kirksey, Betsy Myers, Barbara Wright, Gregory Robbins, Mike Baker, Cindy Tinkham, Deloris Wall, Rose Swink, Ken, David and Roy Williford, Kathy Queen, Stanley and Rod Williford, Curtis and Roger Fulton, Wanda Drewry, and Sherry Spence. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews, and numerous great great nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Friday evening, September 11, 2015, at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service Chapel, Ahoskie, NC with the Rev. Robert Baker and Rev. James Willard officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
