Home invasion fugitive arrested

JACKSON – The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Thomas Lee Banks, 26, of Gaston, who was wanted for an alleged crime in Virginia.

NCSO Captain M. DeLoatch Sr. received a call from the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office on July 16 in reference to a fugitive from the state of Virginia. He was wanted by the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office for a home invasion that occurred on Sunday, July 12.

Banks was taken into custody, without incident, in the Gaston Housing Projects by Gaston and Garysburg police officers and the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Northampton County Detention Center in Jackson and was charged with being a fugitive from justice. He was given $350,000.00 secured bond and a first appearance on Thursday, July 23.

Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith said his office will continue to work closely with all law enforcement agencies, including those in the state of Virginia.

“Through a collective effort this arrest was brought to a peaceful closure. Mr. Banks will be held in the Northampton County Detention Center until he posts bond or waives extradition and is transferred back to Virginia,” Smith stated.

Smith added that would like to thank all involved for their professionalism during this incident.
