Johnnie B. Burke

AHOSKIE – Johnnie Brittle Burke, age 72, passed away on July 2, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Burke was born in Murfreesboro, NC, on December 6, 1942, a son of the late Louis Perry and Bertha (Brittle) Burke.  He was a member of Menola Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years, was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, and was an ordained deacon. Johnnie worked for Hercules Inc. in Franklin, VA for 35 years, retiring in 2000 as a shipping supervisor. He was very proud and honored to have served his country in the US Air Force.

Beside his parents was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Burke, Bobby Burke, Willard Burke, and Louis Burke.

Johnnie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia Outland Burke; two sons, David Glenn Burke and wife, Tammy of Margarettsville, NC, and Philip Lindsay Burke and wife, Gail of Benson, NC; a grandson, Christopher Burke; and a granddaughter, Kelley Burke. Also surviving is his sister, Ann B. Johnson of Speed, NC; two brothers, Walter Burke and wife, Pat of Murfreesboro, NC, and Jerry Burke of Pikeville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2015, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett Sykes Memorial Chapel Murfreesboro, NC, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, 2:00 pm at the Menola Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn, and the Rev. Cecil Harkey, officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro.
