WINDSOR – A Bertie County man is back behind bars as of Monday evening after escaping custody from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Saturday afternoon while he was being booked in jail.

Shaqon Taylor, 17, of 118 David Street in Kelford, was located at a residence across from his home around mid-afternoon on Monday.

Following his Saturday arrest at around 12:50 p.m., Taylor, handcuffed in the front of his body, was being processed at the Sheriff’s Office on charges of damage to personal property and resisting a public officer when he somehow escaped from custody. Sheriff John Holley and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office immediately issued an appeal to the public for information on Taylor’s whereabouts.  At the time he fled, Taylor was wearing a white shirt, khaki shorts, pink socks, and pink crocs shoes.

An extensive search was undertaken for the suspect, and the capture took place sometime around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Holley did not give any details as to Taylor’s capture, other than to acknowledge that he had been apprehended.
