Rev. Robert M. May

SNOW HILL – The Reverend Robert Milton May, 85, died Thursday, June 25, 2015.  A native of GreeneCounty, he was born February 7, 1930, the son of Marion R. and Alice Rouse May.

Reverend May served as an Original Free Will Baptist Minister for more than 61 years before his retirement.  During his tenure of ministry, Reverend May served in many capacities within the denomination, including terms on the Board of Directors of both Mount Olive College and the FWB Children’s Home. Additionally, he was honored multiple times by his fellow ministers by being elected the Minister of the Year. During the many years he lived in Ahoskie, where he served more than 30 years as a Chaplain at what is now Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.  Reverend May was a member of Grimsley OFWB Church in Greene County.

In addition to his parents, Reverend May was preceded in death by his first wife, Sudie Herring May.

His surviving family includes his wife, Jean Thomas Jones May; sons, Tommy May of Elizabeth City, and Brad May and wife, Sheila of Edenton; sister, Fannie Arthur of Snow Hill; step-children, Lisa Vail and husband, Luke of Pikeville and Lee Jones and wife, Pam of Farmville; grandchildren, Tiffany Houlryd and husband, Tommy of Hertford, Brittany May of Elizabeth City, Lauren Goodwin and husband, Eric of Edenton, Gabriel May of Ahoske, and Allison May of Edenton; great-grandchildren, Trent Goodwin and Caroline Goodwin; step-grandchildren, Meagan Jones Stern and husband, Billy of Washington State, and Matthew Jones and wife, Brooke of Ormondsville; step-great-grandchildren, Mattie Brooke Jones, Kailyn Stern and Colton Stern; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held graveside at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Keith Phillips officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grimsley OFWB Church, c/o Nancy Murphy, 450 Pridgen Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
