NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Mary Britton Bazemore passed away peacefully on June 24, 2015 surrounded by her family.

Born in Lewiston, North Carolina, Mary had been a resident of Newport News, Virginia for the last 60 years. She was employed for 20 years with Newport News Eye Physicians as an office assistant for Dr. Levy and Dr. Moore. She was also a lifetime member of Lewiston Baptist Church.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, James E. and Mary E. Britton; her husband, Edgar Sutton Bazemore, Sr.; and by her ten brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her three sons and three daughter-in-laws, Sutton and Barbara Bazemore of Williamsburg, Virginia, Rickey and Terry Bazemore of Surry, Virginia, and Mickey and Vicky Bazemore of Norfolk, Virginia. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tammy and Tommy Moore and Brit Bazemore of Williamsburg, Virginia, Ritchie Bazemore and Amber Fisher of Clairmont, Virginia, Scott and Brittany Bazemore of Surry, Virginia, and Dr. Jennifer and Chris Fundora of Baltimore, Maryland; and by her four great grandchildren, Tim, Tiffany, and Toby Moore and Jade Bazemore.

In addition, she leaves behind her two sister-in-laws, Betsy Bazemore of Ahoskie, North Carolina and Frances Bazemore of Raleigh, North Carolina as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 1-1:45 p.m. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, 205 NC Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie, North Carolina, 27910. Burial will follow at Hoggard Memorial Cemetery, Lewiston-Woodville, North Carolina.
