Dan W. Vann

SUNBURY – Dan Wilson Vann, 91, of 696 Silver Springs Road, Sunbury, passed from this earthly world to his eternal home on Sunday, May 31, 2015.

Mr. Vann was born in Hertford County on August 6, 1923 and was the son of the late Alfred Odien and Lucy Delma Butler Vann. Retired from Planters Peanuts in Suffolk, VA after 40 years of employment, he was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as a Sunday school teacher for many years.  A graduate of Moody Bible College, he was a great witness for Christ and a talented musician often sharing his gift of music in a local prison ministry and with the children in area schools, and he was especially proud of his former weekly radio program with his band “The Country Serenaders”.  A Navy veteran, he had served in World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Daniel Vann; an infant son; two infant great-grandchildren, Avery and Maddox Bright; three sisters, Hazel Wright, Etheleen Martin, and Geneva Vann; a half-sister, Diane Dixon; and by three brothers, Raby, Jarvis, and Lee Vann.

A kind and gentle man who cherished his family dearly, he is survived by his three daughters, Delma Futrell and husband David of Murfreesboro, and Rachel Bright and husband Erna, and Elaine Simpson and husband Jeffrey, all of Sunbury; two half-brothers, Ricky and Ray Vann, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Luke Futrell and wife Lou, Lance Futrell and wife Amanda, Daniel Bright and wife Amber, Ben Bright and wife Lauren, and Nathaniel and Hannah Simpson; four great-grandchildren, Keelie Britt and husband Neal, Chase Futrell, and Blake and Brooke Bright; a great-great-grandson, Easton Britt; and his canine companion, Chico.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Beulah Baptist Church by the Revs. Tom Hall and David Ross. Burial with military honors will follow in the family cemetery near the home with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements.
