Katherine H. Boone

WINSTON-SALEM – Katherine Jennings Hardison Boone, age 93, died March 1, 2015 in Winston-Salem.

The daughter of Jessie Phillips and Henry Allen Hardison, she was born August 7, 1921 in Weldon, North Carolina. She attended Blackstone College and East Carolina where she majored in home economics.  In 1943, Katherine married her childhood sweetheart, William Thomas Boone of Jackson, North Carolina.  After his service in World War II, they settled in Ahoskie, North Carolina where he opened a pharmacy and they raised three children.  Following his death in 1986, she resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia until 2004 when she moved to Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem.

She is survived by her son William Thomas Boone, Jr.; her daughter Mary Katherine Coan and husband Frank; and her daughter Laura Ward and husband Tim. Her grandchildren are Sarah Katherine Brown and husband Tucker,  Dr. William Thomas Boone, III and wife Carrie, Fisher Coan, Lee Coan and wife Martha, Charles Ward and wife Dani, and Caroline Ward and fiancée Hampton Manning.  Her great grand children are Ivey, Caroline and Mitchell Brown, and Huck and Maggie Boone.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Anne Hunter Boone; her sister Ruth Petteway; and her brother Alexander Hardison.

A graveside service for the family will be held in Jackson, North Carolina on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00. Memorials can be sent to the Resident Assistance Fund at Arbor Acres, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27104.
