Linda A. Douthett

HARRELLSVILLE – Linda Ann Douthett, age 62, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loved ones on February 24, 2015 at 4:25 a.m. after fighting a five year battle with colon cancer.

Linda was born on January 17, 1953. In 1986, she moved from her home town of Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Mountain View, Wyoming, where she resided for 26 years until moving to her dream home in Harrellsville, North Carolina in spring of 2013.

Linda was a true southern lady who loved LSU football, the New Orleans Saints, cooking with her grandchildren, gardening with her daughter, watching football with her son and traveling with her husband.  She loved everything from fishing to shopping.  In 2013 Linda was honored as the Grand Marshall of Relay for Life after spending many years as a volunteer.  In 2014 she was asked to speak at the dedication of the new Cancer Care and Hematology Unit at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, but her illness kept her from attending.  She was a retired pipefitter and welder who would go to the mine with a bow in her hair but out work any man on site.

She is survived by her husband, DuWayne; son Micheal Terrell Mierzwik his wife Jaycee; daughter Leontine Marie Taft, her husband Joseph; her grandchildren Micheal, Kayla, Bryan, Tony and Seth; her brothers, James, Jimmy, Lamar, Billy, and Mitchell; two sisters, Diane and Paula; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will be greeted in heaven by her parents, William and Clara Evans.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Home on February 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Rice officiating, followed by memorial services and the spreading of ashes in Baton Rouge at the family cemetery, and in the mountains outside Mountain View, Wyoming.
