William J. Parker

MURFREESBORO – William Julian Parker, 95, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Hertford County, he was a former employee of Riverside Manufacturing and became Bursar at Chowan College from 1970 to 1984, retiring at that time. He was a United States Army Veteran and the oldest living lifetime member of Meherrin Baptist Church where he was honored to be and was a very active Deacon. A charter member of American George Masonic Lodge No. 17 in Murfreesboro, he was a Shriner and a member of the Murfreesboro Exchange Club.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Edith Matthews Parker of their home; two sons, William J. Parker, Jr. and Kenneth M. Parker; and one daughter, Cindy E. Parker; three grandchildren, Jennie Parker Kelly, Mathew Brett Parker, and Michael Drew Parker; four great grandchildren; and brother, Fredrick B. Parker. He had been preceded in death by a sister, Daphyne P. Felts.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20 at 11 a.m. in Meherrin Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Parsons presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
