AULANDER – Henry Grayson Spruill, age 90, of Carroll Street, Aulander, died Monday, December 22, 2014 in Ahoskie of a massive heart attack.

Henry Spruill was a native of Bertie County and a member and deacon of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a former member and past president of the Aulander Ruritan Club, member of the Aulander Town Council, and a past District Director of the National Association of Postmasters for the First District of NC. Mr. Spruill was Postmaster of Aulander for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ruth Spivey Spruill, of Aulander; daughters, Anne S. Shearin and her husband, Norm, of Kitty Hawk and Raleigh, and Donna S. Adams and her husband, Wesley, of Greenville, NC; son, Joseph W. Spruill and his wife, Lloyd, of Raleigh; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, Dec. 26 at Connaritsa Baptist Church on NC 305 South of Aulander. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the service to follow at 2:00. Burial will take place at Aulander Cemetery immediately following the service.
