KILL DEVIL HILLS – Charles Leonard Wright, 86, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Rich Square Villa in Rich Square, NC.

Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC on February 14, 1928 to the late Dorsey and Susie Wright, he was married to the late Mona Rae Burgess of Conway, NC in 1946.

A native of Halifax, NC he was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  After serving in the Merchant Marines, he retired as a residential and commercial Carpenter in Union, New Jersey.

He was a friend and confidant to almost everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by many. He had the heart and courage that very few will ever possess.

After outliving his wife, two children, and a great grandchild, Charles also looked for the positive in people and in life.  Kindness and integrity had defined his life.

After suffering many losses, Charles was still an outgoing grandfather and played a pivotal role that helped shape the lives of many to include his neighbors, Paul and Laura McGrath and their children, Brendan and Danny in New Jersey.  Charles enjoyed traveling around the world with his bride.  After relocating to Kill Devil Hills, NC they managed Decharmarnel RV Park owned by Charles and Margaret Burgess for many years.

Preceded in death by wife, Mona Rae Wright; a daughter, Dorothy Faye Wright; son, Charles Ray Wright;  grandson, Matthew Wright; parents, Dorsey and Susie Wright; brother, Raymond Wright and his wife, Rose; he is survived by three grandsons, Marc, Charlie, & Patrick Mcallister; two great grandchildren, Kara and Caleb Mcallister of Florida; brothers, Randolph Wright (Virginia) and Donald Wright (Dianne) of Florida; sister, Rachel Cogler (Ken) of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Town of Conway Cemetery with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn presiding. Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway was in charge of arrangements.
