AHOSKIE – Harvey Chamblee Lewis, age 91, of Ahoskie, passed away on November 28, 2014 at Vidant Roanoke- Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.

He was born on December 28, 1922 to Ominous and Sallie Lewis in Hertford County, NC.  A World War II Navy veteran, Harvey retired after 33 years with the NC Highway Department.  He was a Deacon at Union Baptist Church for many years, later becoming a member of New Vision Ministries.  An avid car restorer with his son, Harvey was also a member of Cars are Fun for many years.  Also a founding member of the Union Fire Dept., Harvey loved and cherished the times spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Pattie Harrell Lewis.

Harvey is survived by two daughters, Patsy and husband Billy Cooke of Aulander, NC, and Peggy and husband Jerry Boyd of Roanoke Rapids, NC; son, Bryan and wife Sallie Lewis of Ahoskie, NC; eight grandchildren, Patricia and husband Michael Baker, Richard and wife Phyllis Bracy, Jimmy and wife Melanie Bracy, Stephen Bracy, Rusty and wife Heather Boyd, Chris and wife Cindy Boyd, Josh and wife Annette Boyd, and Daniel Boyd; fifteen great-grandchildren, Alethea, Matthew, Sarah, Cody, Angel, Jordan, Logan, Megan, Michael, Nicholas, Emily, Eleanor, Avery, Taigen, and Caleb; and three great-great-grandchildren, Gavin, Hunter, and Gage.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014, 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Sandy Outlaw officiating, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Volunteer Fire Department, 103 Union Road, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
