Alice S. Taylor

WINTON – Alice Smith Taylor, 89, of 500 N. King Street, Winton, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Hertford County on October 10, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Emma Eure Smith.  A homemaker, she also enjoyed serving as a babysitter for many children in her community over the years. A member of Winton Baptist Church, she had been active with the Hertford County Office of Aging where she had volunteered for 22 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Davis Taylor, Sr., and by 13 siblings.

Surviving are her daughter, Louise Taylor Durham and husband Wayne of Ocean Isle Beach; three sons, Phillip Taylor, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Macon, GA, Wayne Taylor and wife Sonya of Winton, and Chris Taylor and wife Carol of Cofield; a brother, Lloyd Smith and wife Betty of Severn; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Winton Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Futrell.  A private burial will be in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family in the church social hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
