Margaret P. Smithwick

AHOSKIE – Margaret Perry Smithwick, age 99 of Ahoskie, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Creekside Care and Rehabilitation Center of Ahoskie, NC.

She was born on September 18, 1915 to Ernest and Annie Cobb Perry in Windsor, NC. Margaret worked as a nurse at BertieMemorialHospital for approximately thirty years. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, fishing, and tending her flower garden. Margaret was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church, Menola Home Demonstration, and Eastern Star. Margaret was known for her sense of humor to all that knew her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Besides her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Donald Smithwick; her sisters, Ann Asbell and Lucille Hardison; along with her brothers, Ledrew Perry and Wilbur Perry.

Margaret is survived by her son, Jim Smithwick and his wife Jean of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; her daughter-in-law, Angela Smithwick of Ahoskie, NC; and her sister, Christine Ward of Plymouth, NC, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie with the Rev. Woody Copeland officiating.
