Nearly 6,700 voters in Northampton County cast a ballot during the 2014 General Election without the presence of a locally contested race.

Local candidates vying for seats on the county level were all unopposed (vote totals are unofficial until next week’s mandatory canvass of all polling places in Northampton):

County Commissioner (District 3)

Chester J. Deloatch Sr. – 4,640

County Commissioner (District 4)

Robert V. Carter (D) – 4,642

County Commissioner (District 5)

Fannie P. Greene – 4,723

Clerk of Superior Court

Laquitta Green Cooper – 4,829

County Sheriff

Jack Smith (D) – 5,640

Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors (vote for 2)

Michael S. Taylor – 4,060

Gregory L. Harris – 3,594

Northampton County voters did have a hand in electing two of their own, both unopposed, to represent the region as members of the North Carolina General Assembly.

Incumbent Democrat Michael Wray of Gaston returns to the NC House of Representatives for District 27 (Northampton and Halifax counties). Wray totaled 17,398 votes, of which 5,215 came from his home county.

Another Gaston native, Erica Smith-Ingram, was named on a total of 39,542 ballots to win the NC Senate seat for District 3 (Bertie, Chowan, Edgecombe, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Tyrrell and Washington counties). Of that vote total, 4,749 came in Northampton County.
