Hobbsville man dies in Suffolk crash

SUFFOLK, VA – A Hobbsville man died Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident here on Carolina Road.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Kenneth James Wiggins Jr. The accident happened about 5:56 a.m. in the 700-800 block of Carolina Road just before the Southwest Suffolk Bypass.

According to a city news release, the Toyota Tundra four-door pickup truck, operated by Wiggins, was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, struck a culvert and flipped several times.

Wiggins, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for the morning and part of the afternoon while police investigated.

According to obituary information from Miller Funeral Home in Gatesville, Wiggins lived on Carters Road in Hobbsville. He was employed as a ship fitter with B.A.E. Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.

He is survived by his father, Kenneth James Wiggins, Sr. of Hobbsville; his mother, Amy Long Wiggins of Corapeake; his fiancée, Stephanie Pierce Wiggins of Hobbsville; a daughter, Kara Marie Wiggins, a son, Kenneth James Wiggins, III, both of the home; and a sister, Selena Wiggins of Corapeake.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Wiggins Family Cemetery, located at Carters Crossroads.
