Ollie C. Harrell

LEWISVILLE, NC – Mr. Ollie Cecil Harrell, 79, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his residence.

Ollie was born September 19, 1934 in Bertie County, the son of Cecil Harrison and Nettie Valentine Harrell. He was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church and the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Ollie was also a member of the NC Pharmaceutical Association, the Campbell University National Alumni Association and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Alumni Association.

He was a standout member of the Campbell College Basketball team, where he co-captained the 1954 squad that advanced to the National Junior College Tournament. Ollie played in the first game held at Carter Gymnasium and was later inducted into the Campbell University Sports Hall of Fame. After graduating from Campbell, Ollie played basketball at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he graduated in Pharmacy. He was the former owner of Economy Pharmacy, worked at Revco, DS and retired from Medipack Pharmacy.

Ollie was a gentleman who was dedicated to his work and loved by all who knew him. He loved his family, UNC basketball, vacations at the beach, spending holiday’s with loved ones and participating in activities at the YMCA.

Ollie is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, David Oscar Harrell. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jacquelyn Sheets Harrell; a son, Kent Harrison Harrell and wife, Kimberly, of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Harrell, her daughters, Anna Elizabeth and Danielle Lynn, and fiancé Frank Shier and his son, Christian of Chester, VA; two sisters; Kathryn Harrell Earley of Franklin, VA and Nancy Harrell Draughn of Clemmons; and his grandpets, Micki and Brody.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, July 26 at Lewisville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Ivan Peden. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
