Askewville firemen battle Sunday blaze

ASKEWVILLE – Information is incomplete at this time regarding a residential fire here early Sunday morning.

Fire units from the Askewville and Windsor Fire Departments were called to the early morning house fire on Askewville Road on Sunday morning shortly after midnight. Reports of residents being rescued from the burning home could not be confirmed by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald by presstime late Monday afternoon.

Askewville Fire Chief Daryl Hoggard did day that two pumpers and two tankers were used by his department to battle the blaze which firemen were able to contain shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Members of the Windsor Fire Department also assisted in helping to extinguish the blaze, both with equipment and personnel.

The names of the occupants of the house, or their medical condition at this time, is unknown.
