APD/SBI probes murder

AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police and the North Carolina SBI are investigating the murder of an elderly Ahoskie woman inside her home here at 802 Parker Ave.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said that 85-year-old Ruby Martin Baker was shot around 1 a.m. Sunday by an intruder or intruders. She was transported to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital where she succumbed a short time later.

“We are actively investigating this and have called in the North Carolina SBI,” Fitzhugh said. “We are waiting on the results from an autopsy which will hopefully provide more information on this case.”

Fitzhugh added that his department was alerted to the residence through a call received from ADT alarm monitoring service.

Fitzhugh asked the public for help in solving this case.
