AHOSKIE – Edison Daryl Allen, age 76, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC.

Coach Allen was a native of Northeastern, NC.  He was born on February 13, 1937, a son of the late Walter Edison and Mabel Frocine Davis Allen.  Daryl received his associate’s degree from Chowan College and continued his education at Guilford College, earning his bachelors of science in Health and P.E.   With football being his sport, Coach Allen coached for 52 years in Northeastern NC, retiring twice from Hertford County High School. He had a passion for life and devoted his life to the kids he coached; his church, First Baptist Church of Ahoskie; and his family.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Katherine Futrell Allen; his daughters, Donna Lynn Allen of Garner, NC, and Kathy Ann Allen of Weston, MA; and his son, Edison Daryl “Eddie” Allen, Jr. and wife, Catherine, of Ahoskie, NC.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Lauren Allie Taylor Jordan and husband, James Shelton of Raleigh, NC, John Daryl Pescatore of Austin, TX, Kristina Marie Pescatore of Portland, OR, Eric Carmine Pescatore of Austin, TX, Edison Daryl Allen, III of Virginia Beach, VA, and Catherine Dare Allen of Columbia, NC; a great grandson, Conner Shelton Jordan of Raleigh, NC; and a brother, Leonard Grant Allen of Palm Springs, CA.

Besides his parents, Daryl was predeceased by a sister, Doris Faye Allen Jackson.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie on Friday, January 17, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home.  A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Glaze and the Rev. Dr. Jesse Croom officiating.  Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 649, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
