WINTON – Joseph Kemp Apple, age 70, of Winton passed away on January 13, 2014 at his home.

He was born on April 15, 1943, in Durham, NC, a son of the late K. C. and Rosa Farlow Apple.  Joseph worked as an Operations Manager for an environmental control company, Prittchet Controls, until his retirement in 2004.

Joe was an active member of Union Baptist Church where he served as deacon for several years. He was a member of the 602 Steamfitters Union and an Army veteran. He enjoyed R.V.’ing and his family was very important to him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jay Kemp Apple.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife Linda Asbury Apple; three daughters, Nancy Pacchioli and husband, Marc, of Barnesville, PA, Tia Flowers and husband, Edward, of Hampton, VA, and Pamela Birgfeld and husband, James, of Fort Loudon, PA; and sisters, Mary Smith and husband, Doug, of Randleman, NC, Patricia Congdon and husband, William “Skip”, of Brookville, MD, and Kathryn Apple of Wake Forest, NC. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 7- 8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie and other times at the home.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Curtis Pixler officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hertford-Gates Relay for Life, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC, 27834; or the American Cancer Society, at the same address.
