Helen C. Perry

MERRY HILL – Helen Clair Castellow Perry, 91, a resident of Creekside Care Rehabilitation Center, died Monday December 30, 2013.  She was born in Hertford County March 21, 1922 to the late George Lenny and Minnie Odom Castellow and was the last of their eight children.

Helen was an active member of Colerain Baptist Church. She was the valedictorian of her nursing school class and worked as an LPN with Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.  In the latter stage of her career she became a specialist in serving the terminally ill.  Helen was a member of the Eastern Star.  She worked with the US Government during World War II and helped with the Colerain Museum and was a big supporter of the Colerain Fire and Rescue Departments. She was also a published poet.

Funeral services were held Saturday January 4, 2014 at Colerain Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Saffell.  Burial followed in the Perry Family Cemetery in Wakelon.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Perry of Mt.Gould; sons, Dr. H. Randolph Perry, Jr. and Alvah R. Perry, both of Colerain, and George Steven Perry of Mt.Gould; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
