Ruth F. Pittman

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Ruth Fike Pittman, a native of Ahoskie, died at home on December 20, 2013.

Ruth’s parents were Edwin and Rosa Fike of Ahoskie. Her brothers were Ed Lake and Claude Fike, and her sister was Evelyn Fike Laupus, who grew up in Ahoskie. All are deceased.

Prior to devoting her life to nurturing her husband and daughters, she was a medical social worker and graduate of DukeUniversity, which she entered at age 16.  She earned her M.A. in social work at Tulane University. Ruth practiced at Charity Hospital, Moltnomah Hospital and Duke Medical Center.

Born in Ahoskie, she was named “Best All Around Student” and was captain of her basketball team.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert; and three daughters, Laura Potter (Tim Potter), Dr. Mary Ann Pittman (Steven Boldt) and Bes Baldwin (Dr. Steven Baldwin); and two granddaughters, Madalyn Baldwin and Beryl Baldwin.

Articulate and witty, Ruth enjoyed travel adventures, classical music, her loving dogs, all sports, and great literature during her long and wonderful life.
