Rev. Roy O. Denton, Sr.

WINDSOR – Rev. Roy Ottis Denton, Sr. 82, of 124 White Oak Road, died Wednesday December 4, 2013 at VidantMemorialHospital.

He was born in Eagle Lake, FL on March 2, 1931 to the late Richard Rossie and Cora Alvara Daniels Denton. He graduated from Winter Haven High School where he was a star football player. In 1951 he married Naomi Faith Rupp and they began church ministry together. He was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He served Endicott, VA, Edenton, NC, Wanchese, NC, Durham, NC, Sea Level, NC, Conway, NC; did evangelist travels for three years and served twice in Askewville, NC for a total of 27 years. During that time he was overseer and participated in the construction of the current Sanctuary and was the founder of Bethel Assembly Christian Academy. He served as District Youth director and Sunday School Director in the Appalachian district and was on the North Carolina Presbytery for 34 years. Pastor Denton took missions trips to Equador, France, Russia and Honduras.  He was also the devotional writer for the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald.

Funeral services were held Sunday December 8, 2013 at Askewville Assembly of God by the Rev. R. O. Denton, Jr., the Rev. Charles Kelley, the Rev. David Stewart, Sr. and the Rev. Randall Rogers. Burial followed in EdgewoodCemetery, Windsor.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Naomi Faith Rupp Denton of the home; daughters, Beverly Aycock and husband, Ronald, of Sanford FL, and Ginger Petry and husband, Greg, of Ocala FL; son, the Rev. Roy O. Denton, Jr. and wife, Cheryl ,of Windsor; sister, Christine Clark of Winter Haven FL; brother, Darrell Denton of Haines City FL; grandchildren Rochelle D. Lefler and husband Jake, Cheree D. Givens and husband Bryan, Roy O. “Trey” Denton, III and wife Kellyn, Tori Petry, Savannah Petry and Chase Petry.
