Russell Earl Johnson, better known to his family and friends as “Earl”, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. after a brief illness.

Earl served honorably in the Air Force for four years. He was preceded in death by his father, Eston B. Johnson, and survived by his mother Hazel L. Johnson of Ahoskie; his son, Russell Earl Johnson, Jr. (Rusty) of Oklahoma; a brother, Charles E. Johnson (Bernice) of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Dianne E. Baxley of Newport News, VA; a sister, Susan J. Whitfield (Jeffery) of Hamilton, NC; and close friend, Gerri DeNinno of Chesapeake, VA.

He had a soft spot in his heart for Charles’ wife, Bernice, and a special Aunt, Dora Harrell, and a special Uncle, Mack Johnson. He had a large extended family who will miss him very much.

One of his favorite things to do was collecting Indian artifacts and antiques, which he often would then give away to family and friends.

At Earl’s request, there will be no funeral.  After cremation, the family will have a memorial service at a later date.

We will miss you, Earl – you’re with God now.
