On Friday March 1, 2013, Lula L. Anderson died peacefully in her sleep.

Born Lula Luvenia Holloman on July 7, 1907 to Britton and Lucy Holloman; she was a native of Union, NC.  She was married to the late Raleigh Anderson from 1929 until his death in 1977; the union produced nine children which in turn has created six generations of more than 130 offspring.

Lula was widely known for her frugality, industriousness, and tenacity. At 12 years of age, she adopted the motto “hard work never killed anyone.” Using this motto as an incentive, in 1955, both Lula and her husband, Raleigh, were able to buy their own home in Murfreesboro; a home she lived in until 2005 when she relocated to Virginia Beach, VA.  Lula was a hard working housewife, who was both mentally and physically strong proven by her ability to run the family farm. Later, she would tell medical correspondents that her answer to longevity was hard work and trust in Christ.

Lula had been a deeply religious woman who accepted Christ at an early age and dedicated to him for her entire life. As a member of Union Baptist Church, she had been a Deaconess as well as a Sunday school teacher.  She implemented the church’s annual Family and Friends’ Day. She received many awards and certificates from Christian organizations.

Lula was also a person who did not use age as a barrier to prevent her from achieving her goals; at the age of 58, Lula returned to school where she had earned her G.E.D. at Riverside Education Center.

Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Anderson; sons, Rudolph and Lonnie Anderson; grandchildren, Bridget Letitia Vaughan and Alonzo Anderson; and great grandson, Devonte’ Miller.

She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children and their spouses: Etta Lee McGee, Elsie Marie Miller, Georganna and her husband, Arthur Hoggard, Leon Anderson, Frances Howard and her husband, Joseph Howard, Dora and her husband, Randolph Vaughan, and Verna Lang. She will also be missed by her family, and numerous friends. .

The public viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Hertford County Undertakers, Inc., Winton.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Second Baptist Church, Ahoskie.  Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro.
