From warm, to snow, and back again….that’s the topsy-turvy weather that residents of the Roanoke-Chowan area have come to expect during the Winter months.

On the heels of sub-freezing weather and snow late last week comes balmy conditions, those mimicking what this area of the state experiences in early Spring. After an unseasonably warm day on Tuesday, today’s (Wednesday) forecast calls for much of the same with a high temperature approaching 80 degrees by this afternoon and an overnight low of 49.

According to the National Weather Service office in Wakefield, VA, gusty south to southwest winds in the range of 30 to 40 mph are expected this afternoon through this evening ahead of an approaching strong cold front from the west. There is the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall as the front crosses the area this evening and tonight.

The passage of that front will cause a dip in temperature on Thursday through the weekend. Skies will be mostly sunny during those days, but it will be cold with temps in the 50’s on Thursday, falling to the mid-40’s by the weekend. Overnight lows during that period will range in the mid to upper 20’s.
