SEABOARD – Shelby Taylor Britton, 73, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

A native of Northampton County she was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister who devoted her life to caring for them and others.  She prepared weekly Sunday lunches in her home for family, her Minister’s family, and friends and these meals were truly looked forward to and enjoyed. As a life long member of Galatia Baptist Church, Shelby helped coordinate the food preparations for their gatherings and fund raisers and, also, served in the Nursery where her great love for children kept her there to watch them grow and later have children of their own.

She was a graduate of Jackson High School, attended Business College in Norfolk, VA., and began her working career in the Main Office of Riverside Manufacturing in Murfreesboro. She then became Office Manager of Kelly’s Carpet Shop in Conway where she remained until retirement. A visit to her home would reveal her love of caring for plants and flowers.

Preceded in death by her parents, William Nathan Taylor and Ollie Davis Taylor, her survivors include her husband, Ellis Britton of their home; three daughters, Renee Taylor of Conway,  Kandy Williams with husband, Daryl, of Faison’s Old Tavern and Tonya Britton of Winton; eight grandchildren, Allen and Lucas Taylor of Galatia, Sydney Taylor of Conway, Taylor and Harley Williams of Faison’s Old Tavern and Mackenzie, Skylar, and Garrett Brown of Winton; one brother W.N. Taylor and his wife, Maggie, with nephew and niece, Nat and Ashley Taylor, all of Old Tavern; and three uncles, Elliott Davis and Marion Davis of Seaboard and Joe Davis of Wilmington.

The family will be receiving friends at Galatia Baptist Church Fellowship on Wednesday 19, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. and a Memorial Service for her will be held Thursday 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Galatia Baptist Church with the Rev. David Foster presiding. Interment will follow in the Britton Home Place Cemetery.

Online condolences to be shared with the family can be sent to www.bridgersfuneralhome.com.

Her family has requested that any memorial gifts be given to Galatia Baptist Church, 1219 Galatia Road, Seaboard, NC  27876 or to Vidant Home Health & Hospice, P. O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC  27910.
