WELDON – Stephen Ford Conger Edwards, 17, beloved son of Marian Conger Edwards, Weldon, and Julian Brett Edwards, Raleigh, entered into rest Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church in Weldon at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Ben Duffey officiating.

Survivors include three siblings, Julian Hall Edwards II, Weldon, Marian Lansdell Conger Edwards, Weldon, and William Alexander Hudgins Edwards, Weldon. He is also survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Julian Hall Edwards, Rich Square; his aunts and uncles, Susan deCamp Conger, Augusta, GA, Stephen Halsey Conger, Jr., Littleton, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Cody Lansdell Conger, Weldon, and Mr. & Mrs. Bernie Garrett McQueen, Jr., Raleigh; and numerous cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him: Stephen Halsey Conger, III, Littleton, Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey Alexander Hardee and their children, Alex and Hannah, Roanoke Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cody Lansdell Conger, Jr., Roanoke Rapids, Lewis Flemming Conger, Weldon, Mary Sue Conger, Weldon, Julia Hall McQueen, Raleigh, and Garrett Edwards McQueen, Raleigh.

Conger was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Halsey Conger of Augusta, GA and the late Dr. Julian Hall Edwards of Rich Square.

Superlative: Of the highest kind, quality and order – this was Conger.  He was a brilliant, intellectual and unique young man who loved his family and his church. Conger was gentle, loving, caring, giving, humorous and persistent.  He was a loyal friend; untold numbers of lives were touched by his kindness.  Truly, he was of the highest kind, quality and order.

Conger was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte.

Conger attended Northeast Academy, Lasker, from pre-school through the 10th grade. He was a member of the Student Council, National Senior Beta Club, French Club, varsity basketball team, junior varsity football team and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Jump Rope for Heart, and breast cancer charity events.  Conger was an enthusiastic participant in Northeast’s NY Bus Trip fundraiser. He attended Virginia Episcopal School, Lynchburg, VA during his junior year, and was a member of the cross country team.

Conger’s hobbies included water sports, swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, photography, history, religion, travel, and reading.  He loved to tinker with technology, and generously shared his knowledge unpretentiously.  He was an avid fan of North Carolina State and was member of the Junior Wolfpack Club.

In his passing from this earthly life into eternal life and the arms of Jesus Christ, Conger, an organ donor, gave a special gift that will give life to others.   He will be missed by the Class of 2013.

The family will receive friends at the residence. Following the service, a reception will be held at Roanoke Shores at Lake Gaston, NC.
