Accident blocks NC 45

COFIELD – NC 45 south of Cofield is temporarily closed this morning (Friday) due to a traffic accident.
An 18-wheeler has overturned, completely blocking both lanes of travel.
The driver, Jerry Hollis of Fountain, has been transported to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. Information provided at the scene by the North Carolina Highway Patrol is that the injuries suffered by Hollis are not life threatening.
Hollis was hauling steel beams that now litter the roadway and both shoulders. Crews were headed to the accident scene by 10 a.m. to begin clean-up as well as removing the wrecked 18-wheeler.
By all indications, the roadway will reopen to thru traffic after 12 noon.
