MERRY HILL – Lawrence Academy plans to celebrate 40 years of Warrior football this fall.

In addition, Head Football Coach Beau Drake and his Warriors will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1992 North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A State Championship.

The celebration will be held Friday, September 14 where several events will be planned for all lettermen and former coaches of the school. The opponent for the evening, like the 1992 state title game, will be arch rival Hobgood Academy.

Highlights of those events include:

  • an invitation to the pregame meal at the Heritage House in Windsor;
  • access to the sidelines and field during pregame warm-ups;
  • leading the team out on the “Warrior Death March” entrance to the stadium; and
  • halftime recognition of all former players/coaches.

To be part of the event, contact Drake or Treasa White at Lawrence Academy by calling 482-4748.

In addition, Drake wants all former players and coaches to be aware of the 2012 home football schedule:

  • Aug. 24 Work of God Christian Academy;
  • Sept. 12 Hobgood Academy (Football Alumni Night);
  • Sept. 28 Northeast Academy (Homecoming); and
  • Oct. 5 Halifax Academy (Senior Night).

“We appreciate the people who have gone before us and all they have meant to Lawrence Academy football,” Drake said. “We hope everyone will come out and help us celebrate during the 2012 football season.”
