AHOSKIE – Tyler Burden hit two homeruns and drove in six here Tuesday night.

That helped lead the Senior American Legion team from Post 102 to a 9-4 victory over Edenton Post 40.

Edenton opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first. Darren Armstrong highlighted the inning with a three-run triple.

Ahoskie bounced back to take the lead for good with six runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Billy Nixon got things started with a single to left. He went to second on a Clay Robbins single and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Adison Eure then plated both runs with a two-run double to center.

Mason Wright and Trey Lawrence then drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Burden then hit the first of his two homeruns with a grand slam to right putting Post 102 ahead 6-4.

Ahoskie added a run in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Marvin Harrell, Daniel Merritt and Ryan Williams each drew walks. Nixon then walked with the bases loaded to make it 7-4.

The final two runs of the game came in the home half of the fifth frame.

Wright reached on a two-base error before Burden belted his second homer to center, giving Post 102 a commanding 9-4 edge.

The game was called in the top of the sixth because of rain.

Tyler Pryor tossed six innings for the win. He allowed four runs on two hits and struck out three.

Ahoskie had six hits with Burden leading the way with three hits, two homeruns and six RBIs.

“This was another good conference win,” Post 102 coach Dave Ellis said. “Tyler Pryor pitched a great game for us. Tyler Burden had a great offensive night.

“We hit the ball pretty well,” he added. “It was a good team effort.”

Ahoskie is now 4-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. They will play at Elizabeth City tonight (Thursday). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
