Ruby Lassiter Johnson

CONWAY – Ruby Lassiter Johnson, 75, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Vidant Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville after a lengthy illness.

A native of Northampton County, she was a very caring mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family and because she loved people she was a friend to all who knew her. In younger years, Ruby played basketball for Conway High School and remained an avid North Carolina State basketball fan.  As an adult she was a hard worker with employment at Carolina Telephone, a toothbrush manufacturer and other area businesses, but her great love was food service. She was a good cook and enjoyed preparing food for others at area restaurants and at home. Zion United Methodist was her home church.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawn J. Jarratt and husband, Lance of Conway; two grandchildren, David Wayne Pope, Jr. (Dave) of Conway and Dustin Johnson Pope of Charlotte; three sisters, Daphne Wade (Dare) and Rose Lassiter Nall with husband, Walter all of Conway and Sandra Spivey (Cissy) and husband, Chris, of Roanoke Rapids; six nieces and nephews; eleven great nieces and nephews, nine great, great nieces and nephews, and she adored them all.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway, Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 25, at 1:00 P.M. in Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Suzanne Cobb presiding.  Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
