RALEIGH – Thelma “Bug” Slaughter Dempsey, born on December 29, 1923 in Ahoskie, died peacefully on October 22, 2011 in Raleigh, NC.

She was the last surviving child of Russell Pruette and Bessie Sumner Slaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Dempsey, Jr.; and her daughter, Anne Cleo Dempsey.

She is survived by her son, Robert Lee Dempsey, III.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.
