Bears beat Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT – Hertford County jumped out to an early lead and held off a late challenge from Rocky Mount High School here Wednesday.

The Bears led 19-9 after one quarter and that propelled them to a 62-56 victory on the road in the non-conference affair.

The Bears led 29-21 at the intermission and held a 38-37 lead heading into the final quarter.

“This was a good win and a great effort from the kids on the road,” HCHS Head Basketball Coach Charles Simmons said.

Dontez Tyler led the way for the Bears with 17 points while Jordan Jones added 16 in the victory. Dekimis Perry (11) and Petey Boone (10) were the other two Bears who were in double figures during the win.

Rounding out the scoring were Shabazz Atkins (4), D’Isaac Jordan (2) and Wayne Simmons (2).

After last night’s (Friday) matchup with Pasquotank, the Bears (9-3) will be off until January 14 when they travel to rival Bertie High School.
