Alice Nickens

AHOSKIE – Mrs. Alice Jones Nickens, 106, departed this life on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Ahoskie House, Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Nickens was born on April 14, 1904 in Hertford County, NC. She was one of 13 children born to the late Eff Richard Jones and Annie Walden Jones.
Alice was a lifelong resident of Hertford County where she was an educator for more than 50 years. She was a loyal member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC, where she remained a member until her death. She was an active member in her community.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two daughters, Mercedes (William) Garrett of Columbia, MD and Sandra Nickens Jones of Hampton, Va.; one son, Eric (Sandra) Nickens Sr. of Gatesville, NC; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and loving and caring friends and former students.
Family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at C.S. Brown Regional Cultural Arts Center and Museum, 102 C.S. Brown Drive, Winton, NC. The Celebration and Remembrance Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the C.S. Brown Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to C.S. Brown Cultural Arts Center, 102 C.S. Brown Drive/Post Office Box 435, Winton, NC, 27986.
The Nickens family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Colin Jones and the staff at the Ahoskie House for the excellent care shown to our loved one.
