MURFREESBORO – Chowan University’s Golf Coach Ellen Ordnung announced today the signing of four student-athletes who will join the Hawks golf team in the fall.

Three out of the four student-athletes represent Virginia while one hails from Florida. All four have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and playing careers at Chowan.

Ordnung signed Chespeake, Va. native Brad Kennon in the early signing period last fall. The Grassfield High School graduate will now have three other incoming student-athletes joining him this year.

Kelvy Donovan will join the squad in the Fall after a successful high school career at Fredericksburg Christian School in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Donovan was the top golfer on his team for three seasons and was named the CAAC Most Valuable Golfer in his final season.

Patrick Mayer is the third player hailing from Virginia. The Yorktown native was a four sport athlete at York High School. He will concentrate on golf when he attends Chowan in the Fall.

Ordnung is excited about the athleticism that Mayer will bring to the Hawks’ roster.

“Patrick was an outstanding high school athlete and that will translate to some very successful seasons on the golf course for us in the future,” stated Ordnung.

Rounding out the 2010-11 recruiting class is Michael Spears. He is a native of Starke, Florida and graduate of Bradford High School. In his senior season, Starke was named a member of the Gainesville Sun’s All Area, Second Team. He qualified for both district and region play in his junior and senior seasons.

“This is going to be an interesting year for the golf team at Chowan,” said Ordnung.

The coach, who begins her fourth season at the helm of the program, has a solid base of returners, led by All CIAA performer, Cliff Forbes.

“With the returning players and the addition of these four new players to our roster, each practice and match will be challenging,” Ordnung said. “I am looking forward to working with each of the young men in the fall.”
