Several sources have confirmed that a suspect arrested for murder last week in Currituck County is a Hertford County native and former athlete at Hertford County High School.

Lateisha Askew Jandreau, 37, of Moyock was arrested July 3 and charged with first degree murder for the death of her 51-year-old husband, Paul Jandreau.

Co-workers and friends had been searching for Mr. Jandreau, a retired Navy master chief and employee of BAE Systems in Norfolk, Va., after he failed to show up for work on June 30.

With his whereabouts unknown, the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office was contacted. In turn, reports say that Mrs. Jandreau was questioned about her missing husband. Allegedly, she became uncooperative with law enforcement officials, leading Currituck Sheriff Susan Johnson to obtain a search warrant for the couple’s Moyock home where Mr. Jandreau’s body was found in the garage on July 3. Mrs. Jandreau was found hiding in a closet.

Following an autopsy, Mr. Jandreau was believed to have died between June 29-30.

Lateisha Jandreau is apparently a professional body builder who currently works at Xe, formerly known as Blackwater located in Moyock. She won the National American Sports Federation’s North Carolina bodybuilding championship last month, according to that organization’s website.

Mrs. Jandreau made her first court appearance on July 7 where her bond was set at $1 million.

Several sources told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that Lateisha Askew (Jandreau) graduated in 1990 from Hertford County High School where she participated athletically on the girls’ track and field team.
