WINDSOR – Two races developed Friday on the last day of filing for offices in Bertie County.

One member of the Bertie County Board of Education will face opposition in his bid for reelection.

Rickey Freeman filed for his third term on the school board representing District 2. He will be challenged by Formeka Capehart-Wallace, who also filed.

In District 4, one-term incumbent Alton H. Parker filed to seek reelection and will do so without opposition.

Board of Education Chair Emma Johnson filed to seek her first full term on the board. She was appointed to fill an unexpired term in 2007, and was elected in 2008 to fulfill the term. She also has no opponent in the November election.

The Bertie County Soil and Water Conservation District board will see three men vying to fill two seats. Incumbents Robert C. Hoggard and John W. Stallings will seek to retain their seats against challenger James W. Pugh.

All candidates will appear on the ballot for the November 2 General Election.
