Foot chase nets marijuana; arrest

MURFREESBORO — A man is in custody and facing drug charges after a foot chase here Friday.

According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe, police dispatch received a call at approximately 12:15 p.m. in reference to a male subject with a gun in Woodridge Mobile Home Park.

Upon officers arriving, a male subject took off running and a foot chase pursued. During the chase, Rowe said the suspect dropped a significant amount of marijuana.

Rowe was able to catch up with fleeing suspect.

“I was able to take him to the ground,” he said.

Rowe said while searching the suspect, officers found more marijuana. In all, 15 small bags were seized and no weapons were found.

The suspect, identified as Jaquan Holloman, 19, of Lewistown Road, was charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, delay and obstruct.

Holloman was brought to the Murfreesboro Police Department where he appeared before the magistrate and was given a $15,000 secured bond. He was then transported to the Hertford County Jail.

Other MPD officers involved in the chase and arrest include Capt. Chris Sumner, Lt. Joe Burgess and Officers Adam Benton and Donald Cuff.

“I want to commend the officers for their quick action in continuing to get drugs off the street in Murfreesboro,” he said.

He also urged residents of Woodridge to keep an open line between his department and their neighborhood.

“I want the good people living in this neighborhood to continue to call the police to make sure their neighborhood is safe,” he concluded.
