MERRY HILL – The process of hiring a new Head Football Coach is well under way at Lawrence Academy.

Last week, Lawrence Head Football Coach Mike Dail left the Warriors to become Defensive Coordinator of the Bertie High School football squad. Dail left after three seasons with the Warriors.

“Coach Dail and I were in contact throughout the off-season and summer,” Lawrence Athletic Director Robert Kravitz said. “He kept me informed of the opportunity he had been given and let me know that he was leaning towards going to Bertie.

“We agreed that I would quietly begin the process of seeking a football coach and that’s what I’ve been able to do,” Kravitz said. “I have been working with Dr. (Ed) McFarlane and Dr. (Ed) Clouse in preparing for next year.”

Kravitz said Dail called him last week to inform him that he was indeed taking the offer at Bertie.

“Coach Dail has been terrific to work with and I wish him nothing but the best at Bertie High,” Kravitz said. “He will do a great job for them just as he has for us.”

Moving forward, however, Kravitz said he was looking for a football coach that could be on campus at Lawrence and felt there were several strong candidates interested in the post.

“We have had contact with several people who are interested in working with the young men on our football team,” Kravitz said. “We have some experienced football coaches who would do an outstanding job. We’re just trying to fit the coaching situation and teaching situation together.”

Kravitz said the Warriors could name a new football coach in the next few weeks if things go well.

“Lawrence Academy is committed to providing the best opportunity for our student-athletes,” Kravitz said. “We’re grateful for what Coach Dail did for our young men, but we’re also excited about the possibilities of the future.”
