Greenville knocks off Ahoskie

GREENVILLE – Pitt County used a four-run fourth inning to break open a close game here Tuesday night.

That inning helped American Legion Post 39 defeat Ahoskie Post 102 11-1in a Senior American Legion contest.

Pitt County opened the scoring with a two-run first inning, but Ahoskie responded in the top of the second stanza.

Zeek Williams singled to right to get things started and then moved to second on a Brad Miller groundout. Williams went to third on a Clay Robbins single to left.

Tyler Burden then had an RBI-single to score Williams and send Miller, who had stolen second, to third.

A groundout, however, ended the threat with Pitt holding a 2-1 edge.

Pitt County scored another run in the bottom of the second inning to push their lead to 3-1.

In the top of the third frame, Daniel Merritt walked for Post 102. With one out, Kyle Horton delivered an infield single and then both advanced on a wild pitch.

A fly out and a strikeout ended the inning.

Pitt County then added one run in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fourth.

Post 39 scored its final three runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to secure the 11-1 final.

Ahoskie had five hits led by Robbins, who recorded two of the safeties.

Dakota Young pitched a complete game in the loss for Ahoskie.

The loss dropped Post 102 to 0-7.
