GOLDSBORO – Ridgecroft School took an early lead, but couldn’t hold on here Friday.

The Rams, seeded number 13 in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic baseball playoffs, fell to fourth seeded Wayne Christian School 8-7.

“I was really proud of the way these young men finished the season, said first-year Rams’ coach Brandon Hodges. “We might have lost the games, but they played hard and never gave up.

“They gave it their all and that’s all I ever ask,” he added. “We will continue to play a tough schedule each year in order to get better.”

Wayne Christian led 1-0 after one inning, but the Rams plated two in the second and three in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Wayne then battled back with one in the third and three each in the fourth and fifth answered by a lone run for the Rams in the fourth and the sixth.

Ridgecroft finished 6-14 overall.
