Rams blow out Knights

AHOSKIE – Three Ridgecroft players combined to pitch a four-hit shutout here Thursday afternoon as the Rams topped Terra Ceia Christian School 12-0.

Blake Sumner, Austin Britton and Miles Harrell combined for the Tarheel Independent Conference baseball victory for the Rams.

Ridgecroft opened the scoring with 11 runs in the bottom of the first frame.

Harrell doubled to left to get the inning started. He then took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Chase Riddick RBI-single to right.

Nathan Pearce walked and Brian Outlaw was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Britton then drew a walk to force Riddick in from third. Pearce stole home for the third run of the inning.

Braxton Sumner then delivered an RBI-single before Thad Perry walked to reload the bases. Josh Lane then had an RBI-single to left and Harrell came through with a two RBI-single to center.

Outlaw, Britton, Braxton Sumner and Perry each added RBI-singles to give the Rams an 11-0 lead.

The Rams plated their final run in the bottom of the second stanza on a Pearce RBI-single to center giving the Rams their 12-0 lead.

The Knights loaded the bases in the top of the third but a flyout ended the threat. TCCS had the bases loaded again in the fifth with one out, but two strikeouts ended the contest.

Blake Sumner pitched two and two-thirds of an inning for Ridgecroft and allowed one hit. Britton then tossed an inning and a third allowing two hits and Harrell tossed one inning and allowed a single hit.

Ridgecroft had 15 hits during the contest including three by Pearce. Harrell, Britton, Lane, Perry and Braxton Sumner had two each.

“We are working hard,” Ridgecroft Head Coach Brandon Hodges said. “We just have to stay positive the rest of the season and see what happens in the TIC tournament.”

Ridgecroft will host Lawrence Academy at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
