Ridgecroft blows by PCA

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft rolled to a 17-0 softball victory over Pungo Christian Academy here Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Rams beat their league rival thanks to a one-hit performance by pitcher Mary Kate Morris. Morris went four innings allowing one hit and striking out six with no walks. Erin Cooked tossed one inning, allowing no hits and striking out two.

Ridgecroft started early, getting a run in the bottom of the first frame. Tayler Smith walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She then scored when Morris reached on an error to make it 1-0.

The Lady Rams exploded for an even dozen marks in the home half of the second stanza. Seven consecutive walks to Lauren Colson, Cooke, Taylor McKeel, Sara Hackney, Emily Cooke, Brice Harrison and Smith accounted for three runs.

Morris then delivered an RBI-single to score Emily Cooke. Jacob had a two-RBI-single that plated Harrison and Smith.

Colson came through with a base hit to load the bases. Erin Cooke drew a walk to score Morris before McKeel had a two-run double. Erin Cooke scored on an RBI-groundout by Hackney and then Harrison had a double that scored McKeel for the 13-0 lead.

Ridgecroft added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Emily Cooke walked before Dana Vann reached on a fielder’s choice. Smith was hit by a pitch and then Vann scored when Morris reached on an error. Jacob had an RBI-groundout to score Smith.

Nikki Smith then reached on an error before scoring along with Morris on a two-run single by Erin Cooke.

McKeel was perfect on the day, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a double. Brice Harrison was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double and Erin Cooke was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Colson was 1-for-2.

Morris checked in at 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Jacob was 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Tess Smithwick led Pungo going 1-for-2 with a double.

The Lady Rams improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the TIC. They are to host Terra Ceia Christian School today (Thursday).
