AHOSKIE – Thanks to the work of two agencies in different counties, nearly two and one-half pounds of marijuana is off the street.

On Friday, Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported the arrest of 22-year-old Travis Shontrell Harrell of 414 Holloman Ave.

Harrell was charged with two felonies – possession with intent to sale and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling to store a controlled substance – as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed under a $20,000 bond following his March 28 arrest. His first court appearance was made March 30.

Chief Fitzhugh said his officers worked with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office on this case.

“We were able to obtain a search warrant based on information we received,” Fitzhugh said.

Upon the execution of that search warrant at 2:55 a.m. on March 28, the marijuana and paraphernalia were found inside the residence. Fitzhugh said Harrell was taken into custody without incident.

APD Detective Sgt. Stephen White made the arrest. Others involved in the case were APD Lt. Jeanette Mathias, APD Officers Michael Kellett, Jesse Mizelle and Ty Metzler along with Bertie Sheriff’s Detective Blake Mizelle.

The pot (2.27 pounds) was said to have an estimated street value of $5,500.

“I’d like to thank all of the officers involved, they worked well together in this combined effort,” Chief Fitzhugh said. “Those efforts took another person off the street who was allegedly selling drugs in our community.”
